Drybar buttercup replacement parts9/7/2023 And best of all, my hair-drying time has been cut down to just minutes because of the blow dryer’s wave heater, which encourages faster and more even drying. The question is, does the product actually live up to my expectations?įeaturing what the brand describes as “ionic technology,” which helps to seal cuticles and reduce frizz, the Drybar Baby Buttercup Blow-Dryer is probably the best thing that has ever happened to my perpetually frizzy hair. Ever since I started using the product, not only have I noticed how my tresses have become significantly smoother, I’ve also been receiving compliments from friends saying that my hair looks healthily shiny (not greasy!) I love that this product has multiple heat settings including a cool shot button, which really helps with styling hair. I went ahead to do more research and ended up getting myself the Drybar Baby Buttercup Blow-Dryer ($135 USD), the travel-sized version of the original design – I thought I’d save that extra $60 USD. Given my pleasant experience with the Dyson Supersonic, the first thing I did was to Google how much it costs. Moving to a new city gave me the perfect excuse to purchase a new hair dryer. The salon talker inside me also appreciates how quiet the hair dryer is, so I can actually make a conversation without screaming “pardon me” a million times during my hair appointment. It doesn’t overheat yet it drys your hair super quickly, thanks to its high-speed, powerful digital motor. I was so excited when I found out that my go-to salon upgraded its blow dryers to the Dyson Supersonic. As soon as my hairstylist used it on me, I immediately understood why the futuristic-looking hair tool got everyone talking.

DSM-IV and DSM-IV-TR required that intense fear, helplessness, or horror were present in the individual’s response to the traumatic event, although it became evident that this was not universal, especially in military populations. However, with recognition that traumatic events are relatively frequent, this criterion was revised. In the initial formulation of PTSD, a traumatic stressor was defined as an event outside the range of usual human experience. The DSM-5 reclassified PTSD as a Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorder instead of an Anxiety Disorder. Because the majority of PTSD treatment research currently published used criteria from the DSM-Fourth Edition-Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR American Psychiatric Association, 2000) or from an earlier version of the DSM, it is important to note how the DSM-5 differs from these earlier versions. The diagnosis of PTSD has undergone a number of changes since it was initially included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Third Edition (DSM-III American Psychiatric Association, 1980), including a revision in the most recent edition released in 2013 (DSM-5 American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Fortunately, effective psychological treatments for PTSD exist. PTSD is associated with a wide range of problems including difficulties at work, social dysfunction and physical health problems ( Alonso et al., 2004 Galovski and Lyons, 2004 Smith et al., 2005). Lifetime and past year prevalence rates of PTSD in community samples are 8.3% and 4.7%, respectively ( Kilpatrick et al., 2013), with similar rates (8.0% and 4.8%) observed in military populations ( Wisco et al., 2014). Although among most individuals these symptoms resolve within several weeks, approximately 10%–20% of individuals exposed to trauma experience PTSD symptoms that persist and are associated with impairment ( Norris and Sloane, 2007). population is exposed to a traumatic event during their lifetime ( Sledjeski et al., 2008) and shortly after exposure, many people experience some symptoms of PTSD. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic, often debilitating mental health disorder that may develop after a traumatic life event, such as military combat, natural disaster, sexual assault, or unexpected loss of a loved one. Finally, we will discuss implications and future directions. Each of these treatments has a large evidence base and is trauma-focused, which means they directly address memories of the traumatic event or thoughts and feelings related to the traumatic event. Both guidelines strongly recommended use of Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The purpose of the current review article is to briefly review the methodology used in each set of 2017 guidelines and then discuss the psychological treatments of PTSD for adults that were strongly recommended by both sets of guidelines. In 2017, the Veterans Health Administration and Department of Defense (VA/DoD) and the American Psychological Association (APA) each published treatment guidelines for PTSD, which are a set of recommendations for providers who treat individuals with PTSD. The Goldbergs is set in an alternate version of the 1980s in the Philadelphia suburb of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, and shows the reality of the 1980s through a preadolescent's and, later in the series, teenager's eyes. It is based on Goldberg's childhood and family in the 1980s, with a childhood version of himself. In Dinner with the Goldbergs, Geoff gets fed up with the family and yells at Barry, as well as the other Goldbergs. The show is loosely based on the showrunner's childhood, during which he regularly videotaped events. Rapala scatter rap challenges9/7/2023 You don’t have to do anything but reel in.” “And to catch fish with a Scatter Rap,” he says, “no elaborate rod-tip maneuvers, wrist motions or jigging strokes are necessary. That built-in ability to change direction is what makes Scatter Raps so deadly, Lindner says. What makes them unique though, is a revolutionary curved Scatter Lip that creates a built-in triggering mechanism that’s effective on multiple species in many conditions, says Al Lindner, a Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Legendary Angler.įeaturing what’s best described as “evasive action,” a Scatter Rap mimics a spooked baitfish fleeing a predator, moving unpredictably from one side to the next, back to center and then kicking out to one side again. “The Scatter Rap illusion of a spooked baitfish fleeing attack is heightened, and its see-through body emits and reflects surrounding colors, resulting in a completely natural appearance.”īuilt on classic Rapala body shapes, all Scatter Raps resemble baits already in your tackle box. “By adding a Scatter Lip to a Glass Shad Rap, one of my all-time favorite baits for summer walleyes just got better with the introduction of the Scatter Rap Glass Shad,” says Tom Neustrom, a Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Legendary Angler. The new Rapala ®crankbait combines translucent color patterns, a classic Shad Rap® profile and an inimitable Scatter Lip™. I truly wish Rapala would make this lure in a larger size, possibly 16 or 18.When targeting mid-depth structure in clear water, you’ll find no better bait than a Scatter Rap ® Glass Shad. For it's size, it is very light, making it very difficult for me to cast it on my Shimano Caenan. Don't expect to cast a mile like the lures with weight transfers.Ĭomments: This isn't a review, but, it is a complaint about this lure. Just put it in the tackle box on those windy days because it will not cast well. Bypass this purchase and stick to the original floater.Ĭomments: bill broke off within the first couple of outings.Ĭomments: It does have that erratic swimming action to it. I have tried throwing it on different lines, finding no luck. The bill makes it almost impossible to cast in all conditions. Most important, this is the worse casting lure on the market. In order to achieve that evasive swimming action you have to reel at a high speed. Couldn't expect more from Rapala! Pick some upĬomments: This is a great concept, terrible practice. Highly recommend in Purpledescent and silver. Caught many different species including largemouths walleyes and white bass. TRY IT!!įrom: Captain Adam: Lake George, NY 8/17/15Ĭomments: Awesome lure! Despite the disadvantages of its light weight I am still able to make it work. I will write to Rapala and suggest they beef up the belly with something stronger then balsa wood. This design flaw may be costly, but the lure is worth replacing. (Note: recently 2 other lures have suffered the same fate), the wire held at the snap swivel and all three fish were netted. My first Scatter rap pulled in 4 Large lakers before a 26"er tore the Hookwire from the belly of the lure. I use it mainly FLATLINE trolling for springtime Lake trout and Landlocked Salmon (also caught a Lake trout off a down rigger at 90ft on my first attempt). The fish love it! During the past two years since I began using the scatter rap, it has out performed other lures about 8 to 1. Emails to Rapala have gone unanswered.Ĭomments: This Lure is a fish magnet! It is best used as a trolling bait. As long as they stay together, these are walleye killers. At $9 per lure, this can get very expensive. This is open water trolling and the bills just "disappear". It's not like we're abusing this lure on rocks or other structure. Unfortunately, on four of the five Scatter Raps I bought, the bills broke off after very little use. Comments: This is our go to lure for fishing walleye in the Columbia River. Psst training9/7/2023 The lack of engagement from managers and leaders prior to the training event. According to Dr Robert O Brinkerhoff, a renowned expert in learning effectiveness, 80% of programmes fail to produce impact, and this is due to three main factors: This is echoed by a 2016 article in the Harvard Business Review, called ‘Why Leadership Training Fails – and What to Do About It’, in which the authors state: “For the most part, the learning doesn’t lead to better organisational performance, because people soon revert to their old ways of doing things.” They get stuck in the swamp of day-to-day activities, fall into the same behaviours they had before the workshop, and don’t achieve the increase in performance they expected. So managers return to work after training, and nothing changes. According to Dr Art Kohn, a corporate training consultant and cognitive science expert, people forget an average of 70% of new information within 24 hours. There are a number of reasons why leadership development programmes fail, one of which is a human issue – many people forget what they have learnt after the programme has finished. This is despite the fact that 80% of companies viewed leadership development as a high priority in a recent 2019 Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends report. Yes, you read that right, most programmes simply fail to achieve their objectives. The vast majority of leadership development programmes don’t work. Participants must agree to provide this intervention to a minimum of three caregivers or patients with cancer or survivors at their home institution during the 6 months following the workshop. The workshop includes 1.5 days of face-to-face training and 4 follow-up phone consultation sessions to support effective use of Bright IDEAS. While Bright IDEAS is effective for virtually any caregiver, we have found it to be most effective with young, single, low SES, or minority caregivers.Įnrollment is limited, so register now. We have adopted the anonymous saying: “ Give a man a fish and feed him for a day teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime” to explain the results of our research findings months after the intervention has been completed. Because this is a skills-based intervention, its benefits persist and may be enhanced over time. Bright IDEAS has been found to be more effective in alleviating distress than treatment as usual or non-directive supportive therapy. The Bright IDEAS paradigm of PSST is an evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy designed to help develop constructive coping skills in caregivers of children recently diagnosed with cancer. Registration for these workshops and follow up support is limited to professionals (i.e., nurses, social workers, counsellors, clergy, psychologists) who are currently providing psychosocial care to children with cancer and their families. Green bank telescope9/7/2023 Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Ferruccio Manfieri, who writes: Nineteen smaller ones will sit close to the center, and 30 18-meterers will constellate the continent.Ĭheck out this video for more info about the ngVLA: The primary array will have 214 18-meter antennas, spiraled across New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and Mexico. As currently envisioned, the ngVLA’s many antennas will together have 10 times the sensitivity and resolution as the VLA, at a wider range of frequencies. THERE IS A new facility potentially on the horizon: The Next-Generation VLA (the VLA itself, while upgraded, is 40 years old). And no matter what it is, the science will not be the same. As funders balance building and operating new scopes with the old, while giving grants to the astronomers who actually use those instruments, something’s gotta give. Upport for pure science in the US is always complicated, since it relies on the good graces of federal agencies and annual budgets. Three years later, the foundation asked Arecibo for management proposals that “involve a substantially reduced funding commitment from NSF.” In 2012 the NSF published a review recommending that the foundation ramp down funding to Green Bank-just 11 years after it was finished-as well as the VLBA, which can resolve a penny from about 960 miles away. In the past several years, though, the National Science Foundation has backed away from three of those instruments. Along with the Very Large Array, Arecibo Observatory, and the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), it is the legacy of a boom time in federal investment in the field that began in earnest after World War II. Today, a replica of Jansky’s scope sits on the lawn in front of Green Bank Observatory, one of the four world-class public radio telescopes in the US. “Sound like steam from a radiator after traveling 30,000 light-years.” Janksy had unwittingly spawned the field of radio astronomy. “Radio waves heard from remote space,” announced The New York Times in May 1933. Jansky studied the hiss for a year, using a rudimentary antenna that looked like toppled scaffolding, before announcing its origin: The static was coming from the the galaxy itself. He found three: nearby thunderstorms, distant thunderstorms, and a steady hiss, coming from … somewhere. The communications goliath wanted to understand the static that might crackle across the ocean, so it asked an engineer named Karl Jansky to investigate its sources. IN THE EARLY 1930s, Bell Labs was experimenting with making wireless transatlantic calls. The NRAO’s Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico is 40 years old. Geography grids9/6/2023 When you walk directly north or south, you follow a meridian when you walk east or west you follow a parallel. Meridians and parallels define geographic directions. Half of this circular outline, connecting one pole to the other, is known as a meridian of longitude, or, more simply, a meridian. The outlines of the cuts form circles on the globe, each of which passes through both poles. Now imagine slicing the Earth through the axis of rotation instead of across it, just as you would cut up a lemon to produce wedges (Figure 1.4 B). We use the Equator as a fundamental reference line for measuring position. The Earth’s longest parallel of latitude is the Equator, which lies midway between the two poles. This circle is known as a parallel of latitude, or a parallel. Each cut creates a circular outline that passes around the surface of the globe. Lay the globe on its side, so that the axis joining the North and South Poles runs parallel to your imaginary chopping board and begin to slice. Imagine cutting the globe just as you might slice an onion to make onion rings (Figure 1.4 A). This is made up of a system of imaginary circles, called parallels and meridians, which are shown in the picture below. Instead, we divide the Earth into what is known as the geographic grid. Because the Earth’s surface is curved, we cannot divide it into a rectangular grid anymore than we could smoothly wrap a globe in a sheet of graph paper. This simple fact has caused mapmakers problems for centuries. It is impossible to lay a flat sheet of paper over a sphere without creasing, folding, or cutting it-as you know if you have tried to gift-wrap a ball. I was willing to pay PopClip to make it work. I searched and searched and there was nothing saying how to make it work. The issue was that PopClip did not work in either of them. I use these two apps religiously and all day. Both UltraEdit and SecurCRT run on Windows, Linux and macOS. IMHO, SecureCRT is the absolute best SSH/Console app ever. It is very powerful and of course SecureCRT. In addition to PopClip, I use UltraEdit as my text editor of choice. What PopClip does: When you highlight some text, you will see a pop up message that allows you to ‘copy’ the text, then when you click anywhere else, you will see another popup that defaults to ‘paste’. I use PopClip for Mac and it is such an awesome tool. But what nonconservators do not see is the way that our work is always a negotiation with the surface. Our best work is meant to be nearly invisible, and we in turn should recede into the background, forgotten. Images show us hunched over surfaces, tiny paintbrushes and metal tools in hand, or squinting through microscopes at square millimeters, working for years on the same objects with the aim of making them look like we had never been there in the first place. And yet, there would be only words, no things.Ĭonservators are expected to have a level of patience that borders on the extreme. The stories do not come before-or without-the surface. The stories we tell come from the surface. I had wanted to say, but this is not how conservators work! We need to look. But the archives, I’d been told, were available. Sitting dumbstruck in the dusty courtyard in front of the Government Museum, I considered the strangeness of the situation: a conservator who could neither touch nor see objects up close, only view them through an impenetrable barrier of glass. The Indian gods always win, as does Indian bureaucracy. Instead, I was like the demonic creature Siva tramples on in his gleeful, whirling dance, the embodiment of human ego. I had expected to spend months examining ancient bronze surfaces, teasing out stories from the corrosion clinging to the god Siva’s swirling hair as he danced the destruction of the universe. Despite all the assurances printed on colorful letterhead and witnessed with florid signatures, I was told that physical access to the ancient and medieval bronzes I had come to Chennai (it was Chennai now, no longer Madras), India, to study was not possible. The savoring of something’s concentrated goodness on the tongue and in one’s memory. But I had forgotten that first meaning, the preservation of the granular sweetness of something after it has ripened, even rotted. The soldier tried to conserve his energy for climbing the high hill.” 1 As a conservator of ancient objects, I find myself in that second guise, almost militaristically bent on saving up the life of things from some impending and yet still-distant hardship. Under “conserve,” the entry says, “Conserve (1), n. When I hold it, I feel only the weight of the gift of words, and the promise of the love of words, passed from my grandfather’s hands into mine. I’ve opened the book and inhaled, but can detect nothing. “Careful,” I say, “be careful with it.” My son says it has a good smell. And yet they sometimes pull the Junior School Dictionary off the shelf and splay it open. By comparison, this little book, itself an ancient relic, has little to offer them. Inexplicably, neither does “love.” Or “story.” This slim book of (not enough) old words sits on our bookshelf, dwarfed by a glossy twenty-two-volume set of the 2019 World Book that my children now consult. The term “patina” does not appear in this dictionary. Did my grandfather foresee this for me? But there’s also a Spanish bull and fighter, and a tiger, none of whom I’ve met in person, so I can’t believe too much in signs. The illustrations on the cover are eerily prescient there’s an ancient Greek pot (now a research interest of mine), and a relief from Abydos, Egypt, where I worked for several years on excavation. I carry the volume with me still, thirty-eight years later, its fraying spine detaching from the book block, the edges of the pages curled and dirty with use (fig. I imagine carting this volume across the oceans, from Madras (it was still called Madras then) to Bethesda, Maryland, the frontispiece emblazoned with my grandfather’s nickname for me, underlined in scarlet ink and stopped with a period.
